Terms of Use

Effective 17 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the Earluma app for iPhone and the earluma.com website. Earluma is provided by Rafael Lopes, an individual developer based in Portugal ("I", "me"). Contact: support@earluma.com.

1. Licence (EULA)

Earluma is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These terms add to the Standard EULA. If the two conflict, the Standard EULA applies, except where these terms give you more rights.

2. What Earluma does

Earluma appears as an audio output on iOS 27 or later. Audio you send to it is corrected on your iPhone for the headphones you choose and then played on those headphones. Corrections are computed from published headphone measurements made by third parties. Results depend on your headphones, how they fit, your ears and your hearing, so Earluma cannot promise a specific sound. Earluma is not a medical device and does not test, diagnose or treat hearing.

3. Listen at safe levels

Corrections and features like loudness compensation and psychoacoustic bass change how loud music seems. Start at a low volume and turn it up gradually. Long listening at high volume can damage your hearing.

4. Purchases

All purchases are made through Apple's App Store and are tied to your Apple ID. Restore them on a new device with "Restore purchases" in the app.

5. Earluma All Access subscription

6. Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple refunds a purchase, the related unlock is removed. Nothing here limits your rights as a consumer under the law of your country.

7. Catalogue and availability

The list of measured headphones can change. New profiles are added, and a profile may be updated when better measurements appear. If a profile you bought has to be removed, I will try to keep it working on your device or offer a reasonable alternative. Earluma depends on features of iOS 27. If Apple changes or removes them, some functions may stop working.

8. Fair use

Don't reverse engineer the service beyond what the law allows, don't try to get paid content without paying for it, and don't overload or attack the server.

9. Trademarks and open-source software

Headphone brand and model names are trademarks of their owners. Earluma is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any headphone maker. Spotify, Apple Music and other app names belong to their owners.

Open-source software

Earluma includes the following open-source software, used under its licence: the EffectDeck audio driver (MIT), mEDIFIER (MIT), the MIT KEMAR HRTF, bs2b and the Sora typeface (SIL Open Font License).

10. Liability

Earluma is provided as is, within the limits of the Standard EULA and applicable law. I am not liable for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Privacy

See the privacy policy.

12. Changes and law

I may update these terms. The current version is always on this page, with its date. These terms are governed by Portuguese law, without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. Consumers in the EU can also use the alternative dispute resolution bodies available in their country.
